Slow Milesa walking notebook

Winter light

10 January 2026

In January the day is short enough to walk from sunrise to sunset without hurrying. Light comes in low and gold across the fields and never really climbs.

Frost stays all day on the north side of every hedge. Footprints from the morning are still crisp at three in the afternoon. You can read who passed before you: a dog, a fox, a pair of boots heading the other way.

These are the walks I remember longest. Fewer people, sharper air, and a flask of tea that tastes better than it has any right to.
